The first attempt to bring the car to the Antarctica unsuccesful is Arrol-Johnston and 1907 1927 Austin 7. Both cars lacked a roof and was not very successful in the frozen continent even after extensive modifications (the first one is so bad that often hurt people who try to fix it).
In the 1960s, however, it is clear that the dog on the way out in the Antarctic, but simply an alternative to expensive motor vehicles. Roy McMahon, was appointed in December 1962 to lead expeditions a year to Australia’s national Antarctic Research expeditions (ANARE) saw an opportunity when it came time for him to choose what vehicle to bring to Australia Mawson Station.
